Calda Pizza - what's the hype

My wife spotted a newly opened branch of Calda Pizza not too far from where we live, north of Cebu.  It's a stone's throw away from our favorite Chowking Branch (local Chinese fast food) in Mandaue City, Cebu.  Calda Pizza, known for their 30" super pizza, is located in Fortune Square, a mini open mall, along Highway Mandaue and AS Fortuna.  The Pizzeria offers al fresco dining and has around 6 bench-like tables that sit 4 pax each.  Read more

Calda Pizza has an open kitchen where you can see the oven where their pizzas are cooked.

This is how big the 30 inch super pizza is. I haven't seen any pizza company offering this size hence it elicits an "ohh" every time their delivery boy walks by. This can probably feed 15 to 30 people, depending on consumption needs.  For the 30" size they slice the pizza into 3"x3" cubes  so you get around 100 slices.

My 7 yr old son Elijah is helping me introduce the steps in making the pizza that we ordered.  The dough is freshly rolled.

We ordered the regular 10" pizza calda which is their best seller.  Made of tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, ground beef, ham, salami, onions, green bell pepper.  Price is at P190.

Pizza variety is many with 4 sizes to choose from (10", 15", 20" and 30").  There's something for everyone.  From plain cheese or vegetarian to the fully loaded variety. Check out the complete list.

This is page 2 of their menu.  Extra toppings also is available.  From hungarian sausage to their bearnaise sauce that range from 20 to 110 bucks.  The most expensive variety is the Quattro Stagione which is made of 4 kinds  of the ff: bolognese, hawaiian ham, etna and calda.  The 10" is priced at P230 and the 30" is P950.

They accept deliveries for Mandaue, Mactan and Consolacion by calling these numbers: 511-1993 and 511-1994.  Minimum of 250 for deliveries plus 25 delivery fee.  Their doors open by 10AM to 10PM Mon to Thurs and 10AM to 12PM Friday to Sunday.

For me, the taste was a bit on the bland side.  The mozzarella cheese just does not cut it.  They should have put some melted cheese for the taste to blend well.

Settle the bill early to avoid a long wait.  Ours even took longer than the preparation and cooking time so it's best to try them with family and friends who won't mind exchanging tidbits while waiting.

Check out their freebies, and  make sure to follow yours up before you leave.
